Vacuum Suction Suddenly Drops: Check the Bin and Accessible Air Path

If suction suddenly changes, check the bin, connections and user-accessible air path before shopping for another vacuum.

What to check first

The Dyson DC34 manual specifies emptying at MAX and switching off/disconnecting the charger before blockage checks. Access differs by model.

A worksheet you can use

Motor noise and effective floor pickup are not the same observation. Record where performance changed to make support advice more useful.

ItemWhat to record
BinMAX line and closure
Inlet and tubeVisible obstruction and connections
BrushHair and permitted user removal
FilterModel-specific care and complete drying

Check in this order

  1. Switch off and disconnect the plug or charger
  2. Inspect only the areas allowed in the manual
  3. Refit every part correctly before comparing normal pickup

If the problem remains

Stop for burning smells, battery deformation or repeated overheating/shutdown. Contact the maker. Do not push sharp tools deep inside or open the motor or battery.

A worked example

Example: if the change began after a long paper scrap was picked up, record that timing and any visible obstruction first. Advertising Pa figures will not identify that blockage.
