Cabinet handles: overall length versus hole centres

To reuse existing holes, match screw-centre spacing first. Overall handle length, door thickness and projection are separate dimensions.

Separate arrows show handle overall length and fixing-hole centre spacing
The upper orange arrow marks screw-hole centre spacing; the lower blue arrow marks overall handle length. Original concept diagram, not a product drawing or measured test.

Measure between hole centres

Record centre-to-centre millimetres, not edge-to-edge distance. If the old handle is bent, use the hole positions rather than its metal length.

Read separate product dimensions

IKEA BAGGANÄS 003.384.07 lists length, hole spacing, depth and suitable door thickness separately. Package length is not an installation dimension.

This example uses the official IKEA Greece product table, checked on 2026-10-25. It is not a physical measurement or a fitting test of another market’s option.

Distinct dimensionPublished value
Overall handle length143 mm
Hole-centre spacing128 mm
Projection depth31 mm
Suitable door thickness16–21 mm

For existing holes 128 mm apart, compare the 128 mm hole spacing, not the 143 mm overall length. A hypothetical 22 mm door falls outside the stated 16–21 mm range; matching holes do not establish fit. Ask the manufacturer before substituting a longer screw.

Record the replacement fit

Check adjacent handles with doors open. Match prescribed fixing hardware; door thickness alone cannot establish screw suitability.

Do not force mismatched holes

Different centre spacing requires another drilling pattern. Choose a matching candidate rather than forcing screws into the old holes.

A worked example

Hypothetical case: existing centres are 128 mm. A candidate with 128 mm overall length but 96 mm hole spacing cannot reuse those holes. Do not read overall length as centre spacing.
