Equal cup diameter does not prove hinge compatibility. Record door position, hinge arm and mounting-plate code together, then compare the manufacturer drawing.

Observe the closed-door position
Observe full overlay, two doors sharing a panel, or a door sitting inside the frame. Record face-frame versus frameless construction with safe photos.
Hinge arm and plate form a combination
Blum’s reference table shows different hinge-arm and plate-height combinations for overlay, twin overlay and inset. Do not order from cup diameter alone.
Record the existing application
Record stamped hinge and plate codes, fastening method and drawing. Without a readable code, send visible photos and door position rather than detaching the door.
| Check | Record |
|---|---|
| Overlay | One door covers the panel |
| Half-overlay | Two doors share one panel |
| Inset | Door sits inside the frame |
| Parts | Stamped hinge and plate codes |
| Fixing | Cup, hole pattern and official drawing |
Confirm parts before removing a door
This is not a heavy-door removal or new-drilling procedure. Confirm the approved hinge/plate and fixing combination, then obtain appropriate installation help.
A worked example
Hypothetical case: two candidates have equal cups, but one is overlay and the other inset. Select by the existing door application and hinge/plate combination, not diameter alone.
