Dining Rug Size: Measure the Chair Feet After Pulling Them Out

A rug should accommodate the chairs in use, not just the tabletop. Measure the rear feet where you actually sit.

What to check first

IKEA offers roughly 60–70 cm beyond each table side as a starting guide, not a universal required clearance.

A worksheet you can use

Chair shape and sitting position vary. Mark a candidate outline on the floor. Measure an extending table in its open position too.

Check in this order

  1. Set the table and chairs in normal positions
  2. Mark the outline including pulled-back chair feet
  3. Check doors, walking routes, robot clearance and care needs

If the problem remains

If the room cannot accommodate it, consider no rug rather than forcing a small one under moving chairs. Catching edges or sliding require reviewing size, thickness and anti-slip conditions.
