Duvet Cover Size: Match the Insert Label, Not the Word Queen

Choose a duvet cover for the insert inside it, rather than for the bed’s Queen label. Compare width and length separately. Equal advertised measurements are useful evidence, but do not guarantee the assembled fit. Use the product comparison and your own measurements below to decide which option is worth considering and which purchase to pause.

A real comparison of two 200×230cm options

These selected options were checked on IKEA’s South Korean storefront on 20 October 2026. Do not transfer the figures to another country, a different size or a similarly named product.

Korean-market optionPublished dimensions
FJÄLLBRÄCKA · warm duvet · 804.585.23Insert width 200 × length 230cm
VIDEOXBÄR · white/multicolour · 906.326.16Cover width 200 × length 230cm; this option includes two 50 × 80cm pillowcases

Both published dimensions match. That establishes a starting point for comparison, rather than a hands-on result. The dimensions alone do not establish corresponding internal ties and insert loops, or manufacturing tolerances; those details remain unverified here.

Read 200×230/50×80 as two different pieces

For this VIDEOXBÄR option, the numbers before the slash describe the duvet cover; the numbers after it describe the pillowcases. It is not a fit range from 200 to 230cm, and it does not mean a duvet insert is included. Read the contents and quantity alongside the dimensions.

Packaging measurements describe the folded shipping package. Copy the product dimensions into your comparison. If a listing reverses the order to 230×200, identify width, length, opening edge and pattern direction before rearranging the figures. A 90-degree rotation is not automatically a workable solution.

Keep the insert label and its current measurements separate

  1. Remove the insert from its cover and lay each piece separately on a clean, sufficiently large surface. Settle large folds without stretching the fabric or pressing the filling flat.
  2. Identify width and length using a consistent orientation, then measure edge to opposite edge. Repeat uncertain readings in that direction; if they differ, record the range instead of selecting the convenient value.
  3. Write ‘label: 200×230cm’ separately from ‘measured today: ___×___cm’. A difference from the label alone does not prove shrinkage or a defect.
  4. For a candidate cover, record its storefront, article number, selected option and published dimensions. Measure a cover you already own separately. Keep units consistent. A used insert’s measurements compared with a new cover’s specification are a preliminary shopping comparison, not a test under identical conditions.

Subtract the insert from the cover on each axis

Width difference = cover width − insert width. Length difference = cover length − insert length. Use one unit. A positive number means the cover dimension is greater; a negative number means it is smaller. These are total dimensional differences, not precise empty margins once a filled duvet is assembled.

Compare your insert and cover dimensions

Enter four dimensions in the same unit and orientation. This calculates dimensional differences, not guaranteed fit.

If the calculator is unavailable, subtract insert width from cover width, then insert length from cover length.

Comparison (width × length)Calculation and decision
Official options: insert 200×230 / cover 200×230cmWidth 0 / length 0cm. Published dimensions match. Check fastenings, care and the actual condition before deciding on the pairing.
Hypothetical: insert 200×220 / cover 200×230cmWidth 0 / length +10cm. Only length differs. A Queen label does not resolve this. Without guidance allowing the specific pairing, compare an option with matching dimensions first.
Hypothetical: insert 200×230 / cover 220×220cmWidth +20 / length −10cm. Wider and shorter at once. Neither area nor a ‘larger’ size name answers the fit question.

The hypothetical rows are arithmetic examples, not products tested or offered for sale. There is no allowance in this guide that applies to every filling and fabric. If a manufacturer recommends two particular models with different dimensions, keep that recommendation and its conditions with your record.

After washing, identify which piece actually changed

Today’s measurements and an old label cannot establish a before-and-after change. If you have no earlier measurement, record the change as unknown. When routine washing is due, follow each care label and remeasure fully dried items in the same orientation with the same method. Do not use extra heat to try to make mismatched pieces fit.

For the cover and insert separately, record ‘measured before → measured fully dry afterwards’. Change on each axis is after minus before. Next calculate the post-wash cover minus the post-wash insert. This shows the current mismatch without assuming that only one item changed, or that both changed by the same proportion.

This is a record of your household observations, not a manufacturer’s tolerance or a laboratory shrinkage result. For new bedding, check return conditions before opening, washing or using it; do not start with a wash merely to conduct a size trial.

Use the result to finish the purchase decision

  • If both stated dimensions match: keep the option as a candidate while checking the cover’s actual fastening points, the insert’s corresponding loops, the closure and both care labels. Record missing information as unknown rather than declaring compatibility from numbers alone.
  • If either axis differs: first compare another option with the required dimensions. When no guidance supports the exact pairing, pausing the purchase is a complete decision; you do not need to guess that a little extra fabric will be acceptable.
  • If your existing pair spreads out and closes normally: replacement is unnecessary. If it has only recently begun shifting, first correct its orientation, distribute the four corners and use the supplied fastenings as directed. Ties cannot add missing width or length.
